The Seattle music scene was rewarded with an unforgettable night from Joseph and Flyte at The Showbox last week when The Sun Tour rolled into town. The dynamic sister trio, Joseph, from Portland, delivered a powerful set of soaring vocals and melodic harmonies that filled the historic venue with captivating energy. Meanwhile, Flyte opened the show with their signature style of indie-pop, setting the stage for a remarkable evening of music in the Emerald City.
Flyte, an up-and-coming indie band hailing from London, opened the concert with an impressive performance. The duo charmed the audience with a variety of tunes from their collection, including songs from their 2021 album, This is Really Going to Hurt, and a new song they wrote the last time they were in Seattle that will be released soon. The band said they wrote the song in Seattle, so it was only fitting to debut it to the audience that evening, and it was received well by the crowd. Flyte’s unique harmonies and gentle performance style perfectly set the tone for the evening as the anticipation for Joseph to take the stage mounted.
As soon as Joseph took the stage, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. The band delivered an incredible set, showcasing their raw talent and captivating stage presence. Their set kicked off with a beautifully harmonic "Love is Flowing" intro that transitioned into the first single off of their newest album, The Sun, "Nervous System." Joseph’s folk-inspired melodies and familial harmonies drew the audience in, eliciting a range of emotions.
The band amped up the crowd with self-love anthems like "Fighter" and "White Flag," which had the audience chanting along loudly. The Closner sisters, Meegan and Allison, brought a high-energy presence to the stage with arms high in the air for much of the show, along with incredible guitar-playing athletics from the third sister, Natalie. The band connected with the audience by sharing stories behind their songs and their own journeys to self-love. From the powerful ballad "Honest" to the uplifting anthem "S.O.S.," Joseph had the audience captivated from start to finish.
Perhaps a highlight of the evening was the band's performance of their newest single, "The Sun," which had been released mid-tour. The song is a vibrant reminder to calm our negative self-talk and believe we are capable of overcoming hardships and limitations.
Overall, the Joseph concert at The Showbox was a night to remember. The band's stunning harmonies, combined with their electrifying performance, created an unforgettable atmosphere that had the entire crowd leaving with the feeling of being empowered. Joseph is a force to be reckoned with in the indie/folk music scene, and their tour was a highlight of the month for Seattle.
